GWRPA Open Race North 2023

Image
My last super set winner was Larry back in 2018, naglo load ako ng pigeons for summer training me inaabot na certificate yung coordinator. I was surprise after 5 years nun ko lang nalaman nag 3rd pala si Larry ng Sta. Ana, Cagayan. Anyways, my latest super set winner was unexpected kasi sa kapatid nya ako naka focus kasi mas maaga dumadating. As you can see sa lipad nya, just like my previous winners, di sumasa,pa ng 1k ang speed. Here's his record sa race:        GWRPA North Race 2023 Vigan - 996.853 Laoag - 728.626 Burgos - 899.202 Pagudpod 1 - 808.887 Pagudpod 2 - 926.736 Super Set Winner (Complete Clocker)

To Think I Consider Them Filler Breeders

Image
So what's a filler? Yung wala lang, di mo ginagamit, nakakulong lang. I never considered them na gamitin to breed my future warriors. Both of these breeders were bred during pandemic. At that time sobrang tinamad ako mag race. Pero once in a while sinisilip ko yung sobrang tagal na nakakulong lang kasi naaawa ako never pa naka ranas ma breed.  For no apparent reason, napag pares ko sila. This year lang ako nag start mag bakuna ng kalapati. Last year madalas pako mamatayan ng pichon. I would breed a lot pero only the strongest survive. At that time na nag hatch sila me available pako ring. Yung mga inuulit kasi namamatayan nga ako. Who would have known (me) na they would produce such a strong sky warrior.

1st Overall Off Color Category/34th Overall Oldbird Category

Image
I raced BFRC 2023 238300 (wala pa syang name) last year as a young bird in BFRC, together with her sister. I noticed back then na maganda lipad nya. Kaya lang nung 2nd to the last lap na cutoff na sya. Usually I stopped racing my pigeons pag na cut off na kasi I concentrate on my lives. No no no no. Nung nag start ang GWRPA I raced her again, her sister live hanggang na cut off sa last lap, while she again, na cut off 2nd to the last lap ulit. Nung malapait na mag start ang summer race I decided to race her again. If you will see my tiktok uploads, puro sya naka feature dun. 2nd to the last lap which was Badoc, Ilocos...

Pigeon Diseases and Prevention

Pigeon Diseases Canker (Trichomoniasis) Cause : The most common pigeon disease found. It is usually transmitted through drinking water and through parents feeding there young. Symptoms : Infected birds show a reduction in activity, ruffled feathers, loss of weight, increased water intake, and diarrhea. Cheesy yellowish deposits can often be observed in the mouth or throat. In advanced stages a stringy mucous and putrid odor can be detected in the mouth. Young birds are most susceptible to Canker. Prevention  - Control stress with half dosage of Improver and AntiFungal, this will control the stress to 0 in the birds. Maintain regular feed and withering schedules Sanitize waterers regularly Isolate and observe any newly acquired birds for several weeks Administer an anti-canker drug or Improver on a regular basis throughout the year. Veterinary recommendations vary from once every three months to once a month. This will depend upon incidence and susceptibility in your own floc...

White Curse

Image
My very first pigeon ever was a white pigeon given to me by my aunt. That's why it became my favorite color. Last year sa gigil ko I bought 3 pairs of pure white racing pigeons, pag eto kako wala pa nakalusot wala na talaga. Luckily nakabuhay ako isa (yep she's the one on the picture). I kept waiting for it to get sick or pag uwi ko ng office wala na sya baka fly away na. But she's still here.

Stolen Off Color GWRPA Young Bird

Image
More than a month bago mag start yung training ng GWRPA nanakawan ako. I was hospitalize kasi sobrang sakit ng left side of my tummy which turned out I have gall stones. I was given a high dose of pain reliever that night and I felt OK kinabukasan na ng hapon. It turns out while I was in pain naiwan ko pala loft ko na bukas. After a month isa isa nakakabalik yung mga nawala. Mukang tinuturuan sila kasi maiikli yung pakpak nung bumalik. Ang dudungis nila, hawak yata araw araw. I kept wishing my white bar na young bird sa GWRPA sana makabalik. Sabi ko me one month pa bago mag start derby pwede pa maka recover. ...

2nd Bulacan Poultry Show (National Fancy Pigeon Show) 2019

Image
I wasn't planning on joining this year medyo hectic ang schedule. It was gonna be held on Saturday, e Sunday me awarding ako dadaluhan sa Province din. But on the day of the show I decided what the heck, makasali na nga din. I chose the Opal Bar first. Father nya yung nanalo last year Best in show din sa Off Color Category. Sa Barless naman I was choosing beteen the cock and the hen, I decided on the cock na lang. One more, gusto ko tatlo, yung young bird ko sa BFRC this year. So to cut the long story short. My Opal Bar  won 1st Place Opal Bar Category and Best in Breed Off Color Racing Pigeon. Sobrang nakaka proud kasi na dupli...

Pick Up The Good, Throw Away The Bad!

Image
Can I just say, wala naman masama kung magturo ka. We have the power to discern. Although experience is still the best teacher. During my time nung nag uumpisa pa lang ako, wala namang available pa online na information about pigeons, walang google, youtube even facebook na isang type mo lang sa search lalabas na lahat about sa kalapati, Wala ka pa makikita, unlike today. Everything I learned mostly thru personal experience. Everytime you lose, pag aralan mo bakit ka natalo. Very important na nililista mo kung ano ginagawa mo kasi believe me me makakalimutan kang details. I hope you get what I'm saying.       Let's say your racing ten pigeons, na cut off yung lima, that's the best time ...

Dumami din

Image
For five years i have been stuck with just a pair of barless, di ako makabuhay. Sobnrang selang nila. I've noticed na hangga't di nakakalagpas ng three month old mamamatay lang. What I did is everytime I produce squabs, I would put it in a separate cage malayo sa flying loft ko.

You Will Never Know Unless You Try Is My New Motto

Image
I admit I descriminate. Well I'm trying to change that. Sabi nga di mo malalaman yung capacity nung kalapati unless you race them. Sa hirap din naman ng race you tend to use your winning breeders over and over. For fear of losing and waste of time. Sometimes I forego trying different pairs too para masubukan kung me i-improve pa. Although I miss doing that especially pag me nakikita akong kalapati na di ko type ichura, sometimes I ask myself bakit ko to binuhay. Its a little cruel pero I swear it works din.

How To Prevent Fly Aways

Image
Pano ba maiwasan ang fly away? Every year a number of my youngsters are lost because of this. Nakakahinayang yung panahon saka yung gastos, Yung cost nung rings, vitamins and feeds kasama na pagod at hirap tapos lilipad lang sa kawalan. I usually teach my new warriors very young, me balahibong pusa pa nilalabas ko na. Medyo daring yung youngsters ko in a few hours nag a-atempt na agad magligid. Kaya kadalasan nawawala yung iba. Right now I'm gonna try a new strategy. Pahinugin ko muna. Some of my friends actually teaches their pigeons medyo me edad na and they actually experience zero fly aways.

Dream Loft

Image
In the span of 14 years as a pigeon racer, i think i changed loft 3 times already. The loft I have now I thought would be my last loft. But for a while I'm thinking of changing again. The one I have now requires me to climb a ladder and right now I'm not getting any younger and I'm already having a hard time climbing, plus factor in a couple of  missteps/accidents I've experienced. Isa pa sa factor na  nire-reconsider ko is the height of my loft. Medyo mataas sya, kaya wala akong trapping. (Picture is my breeding loft not my flyer's)     The second photo is what I'm actually dreaming of these days. Although it would require cleaning ng floor kasi my current loft bumabagsak lang sa sand yung poops, and ilang years ko na di ginagalaw ha ha.

Keep The Family Alive

Image
To veterans out there? Would you risk flying a season using without your ever trusted lines? I'm talking no trace what so ever of any blood, just pure new pigeons in your loft? My guess is no way its gonna happen right? Me too. Its very hard to gamble completely on new pigeons to fight for you, lalo na sa veterans. Yung wala ka idea kung ano ililipad. So its very important to inbreed your winning lines para ma continue saka di mawala o lumabnaw yung dugo sa loft nyo. You can pair fathers to daughters, mothers to sons, siblings, even mag titos and titas or granddaughters/grandsons to great parents. Jusme if I'm not talking about pigeons these sounds so sinful.

Para San Ba Yung Off Color?

Image
Para san daw ba yung off-color? Kanya kanya yan. For me, bata pa lang ako mahilig na ko sa off color, pero dati display lang talaga sila. These past few years there was a surge in demand for off color pigeon racing. Suddenly yung pang display lang dati pwede mo na i-race, biglang bigla yung nakakulong lang buong araw sa cages ngayon nakikita mo na nagliligid, much more nahahagis na saka nare-race. I admit yung thrill  saka yung challenge kasi is to produce an off color na mananalo sa race. I produced a couple of birds who won in a bird show pero sa race puro finisher pa lang, kaya me konting gigil pa ko. Akala ko ma a-achieve ko na sya this Summer 2019 but my pigeon failed to clock Sta. Ana. I was in Cagayan De Oro for a whole week kaya di ako ang nag alaga sa kanya. Although smash talaga yung race ng Sta. Ana but still iniisip ko pa din kung ako kaya nag alaga that week napauwi ko kaya? I guess I will never know.      But still, happy na r...

That One Producer or Golden Pair

Image
Almost every newbies would ask "Pano po ba manalo?". It is actually very simple yet very tricky and would entail a lot of luck. First, you need to be "blessed" with a producer breeder. Producer yung halos lahat ng iaanak nya either completes a race or better yet, wins a race. Once you invested in supposed to be good breeders, the next thing to do is to race the offspring. And when you paired ...

10 Commandments Of Pigeon Racing

1. Always keep good records! There is no way to consistently better your loft, birds and results when you don’t have records. From the very minute a bird enters your loft it should have a paper trail. Everything that bird does from training, breeding, racing, health, results and everything in between should be recorded. 2. Good health is 75% of the equation! Just like any athlete, racing pigeons need to be in good health to perform at their peak levels. There is no sense of buying top class birds if you don’t keep them in top condition. A sick and unhealthy “world-class” pigeon is in the same category as a losing pigeon. So, keep health a priority 3. The basket never lies! This goes hand in hand with number one, you may have your favorites in your loft, you may have birds who you think “look” amazing but in the end results speak louder than words. Training tosses will always show you who your best birds are. Again, this is why it is also important to keep good records. 4. Qualit...

20 Things To Remember To Becoming A Champion Fancier

Image

Six = Sex

Image
Six months ago, nagkasakit si De635. It started only as a simple sipon tapos naging halak. But during that time kasagsagan ng katamaran ko sa pagkakalapati. After so many months ganun pa rin sya, payat, me sipon, me halak. Then just a few days ago naisip ko lang ulit. Pag nga pala me sakit akong kalapati pinaparisan ko gumagaling. Pinarisan ko. Pag gising ko kinabukasan, as in no trace of sickness. Biglang biglang nawala. Sumigla agad. Asan na sipon saka halak mo De635? Lalake lang pala hanap mo he he

Speed Vs. Consistent

Image
You hear this all the time "Pag mabilis sa training, mabilis din mawala sa derby". Sa totoo lang, based on experience, its true. He's conserving energy para meron pa sya lakas lumipad. Big factor siguro dito yung linyada ng kalapati. In time makikita mo yung traits na to sa hawak mong linyada. I...

What Is The Right Age For YBs?

Image
What is the right age for our YBs? Usually I breed around January to March, but sometimes inaabot din ng April for my young birds for North Race. So by race time they should be around 7 to 8 months. My breeding for south starts around June July. For some they breed earlier, especially south gusto kasi nila me edad daw pag pang south. If I will give an advice I'd say yung 1st batch you breed earlier, then stop, then breed the second batch young, para makita mo kung yung line na hawak mo mas magaling ba pag nilaban mo ng me edad o bata. Madami din kasing disadvantages pag me edad. So its your choice. Younger or older?
